The Associazione Chiese Vive proposes an itinerary to discover Verona. It’s a route that meanders through the historical centre of the city to experience over a thousand years of history, art and religious faith. The historical churches of Verona offer a panorama which is truly rare in Italy, due to its artistic continuity and to the purity of its peaks of expression.

Starting with the Basilica di San Zeno, a prototype of Romanesque style, known all over the world, with exceptional bronze entrance doors and a splendid triptych by Andrea Mantegna, one continues, in the heart of town, to discover the Basilica di Santa Anastasia, a jewel box of Gothic art, including frescoes by Pisanello and Altichiero, and reaching, nearby, the Cathedral Complex: an articulated labyrinth of sacred monuments, including the baptistery, the church of Saint Elena (with early-Christian vestiges), and the sumptuous Cathedral (Duomo), which boasts an altarpiece by Tiziano.

And finally, on the shore of the Adige River, it is very worthwhile to have an in-depth visit of the two churches (one on top of the other) of San Fermo, with fourteenth-century frescoes in the grand Gothic basilica of the Franciscan Friars, to then carry on the unique atmosphere of the lower church, in Romanesque style.

    Children under 18 are free if accompanied by two paying adults. This system is applied for visiting a single church and for the cumulative deal.

    For families composed of two adults and up to three children until the age of 18, this offer comprises two audio guides, available in six languages, until they run out. Otherwise one can receive three written info sheets (available in nine languages).

  • Verona Card

    For those who wish to visit the entire city of Verona, there is a card, called the Verona Card, which allows one to visit, in addition to the churches of our itinerary, almost all the main monuments and museums of Verona, e.g. the Arena, the Museum of Castelvecchio, Juliet’s house, the Lamberti Tower, and much more. In addition, the Verona Card allows one to travel on all city buses. The Card can be purchased at the entrance booths of all monuments and museums. You can also buy one at the IAT office, situated in Piazza Bra, at newsstands or tobacconists in the city centre.
